One Pillar Pagoda
Historic Buddhist temple
About
One Pillar Pagoda, located in Hanoi, is one of Vietnam’s most iconic Buddhist temples. Built in 1049 during the reign of Emperor Ly Thai Tong, it features a unique design resembling a lotus flower rising from a pond, symbolizing purity and enlightenment. Constructed to honor Avalokiteshvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, the pagoda was inspired by the emperor's dream of meeting the deity. Despite being destroyed and rebuilt several times, One Pillar Pagoda remains a significant cultural and historical site. Its serene surroundings and distinctive architecture make it a must-visit landmark in Hanoi.
